Psychodynamic therapy
Psychodynamic therapy is usually long-term. Sessions are weekly and last 50 minutes. Your session would be at the same time every week.
Psychodynamic therapy is about exploring the difficulties you are having right now, and looking beneath the current situation for any patterns in relationships, identifying any protection mechanisms you may have been using to keep yourself safe.
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on exploring how unconscious thoughts and past experiences—especially from childhood—affect current behaviour and emotions. It can help us to understand deep-rooted patterns in our relationships and feelings, often by examining recurring themes and unresolved conflicts. The goal is to gain insight into these unconscious patterns so that we can move forward.
In psychodynamic therapy, the most important thing for change is the therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor. It provides a secure and non-judgmental environment in which emotional difficulties stemming from past relationships can be addressed and resolved without the risk of further shame.
